Cook Islands $ 5 Saint Christopher Silver Gilded Oval Coin with Swarovski 2009 Edition Technical Specs Presentation Country:   Cook Island Metal Purity:    ¿Silver 0.999 Box:   Yes Year of Issue:   2009 Weight:   25 g CoA:   Yes Face Value:   5 dollars Dimensions:   30 x 34     Quality:   Proof     Mintage:   5,000   New coin with capsule, CoA and box Saint Christopher is venerated by several Christian denominations as a martyr killed in the reign of the 3rd-century Roman Emperor Decius (reigned 249¿251) or alternatively under the Roman Emperor Maximinus II Dacian (reigned 308¿313). There appears to be confusion due to the similarity in names "Decius" and "Dacian". However his veneration only appears late in Christian tradition, and did not become widespread in the Western Church until the Late Middle Ages, although churches and monasteries were named after him by the 7th century. That Christopher's name, meaning "Christ-bearer", foretells his adult life may give a clue that his story lacks a precise historical origin. He may be the same figure as Saint Menas. His most famous legend, which is mainly known from the West and may draw from Ancient Greek mythology, tells that he carried a child, who was unknown to him, across a river before the child revealed himself as Christ. Therefore, he is the patron saint of travelers, and small images of him are often worn around the neck, on a bracelet, carried in a pocket, or placed in vehicles by Christians. ____________________________________________________  Feel free to e-mail me with any questions.

Author: A.C. Jordan  Publisher: Ad Donker Publishers () ISBN-10: ISBN-13: Condition: Very Good. Cover edges and corners a bit worn. Binding: Softcover Pages: 285 Dimensions: 22 x 15 x 2 cm +++ by A.C. Jordan +++ The Wrath of the Ancestors It is the story of Jongilanga, a young, modern man who goes to the University College of Fort Hare and who, unknown to even himself, is the heir to the Mpondomise throne. Identified by a tribal elder, he leaves Fort Hare, before he has completed his studies to challenge a corrupt uncle who thought he would become the new king. Jongilanga becomes King of the Mpondomise but his progressive ideas prove to be too far ahead for most of his people, enabling his uncle to lead a revolt against him. Jongilanga's life ends tragically and prematurely but, eventually, his uncle also has to flee. Jordan does not pass judgement, but through the lives of ordinary and ambitious people he contrasts Christian converts with those holding traditional beliefs, school people with 'red ochre' people, boarding school activities with the assembly at the royal palace. One of the central themes of the novel is cultural conflict between the more western way of life and African customs and traditions.   A passion for books and a passion for collecting fine editions was the recipe that created the successful group of bookshops in Johannesburg called Bookdealers. Born in Italy, Sophia had three daughters: Faith (age 12), Hope (age 10) and Charity (age 9), who were named after virtues mentioned by Saint Paul in 1 Corinthians 13. They are said to have been martyred during the reign of Hadrian (117-138). The guards took Sophia's daughters one by one, from the eldest to the youngest and beat and tortured them to death. Sophia buried her daughters' bodies and remained by their graves for three days until she died herself. According to tradition, in 778 part of their relics were transferred to the women's convent at Eschau in Alsace. There is a common misconception that the capital city of Bulgaria, Sofia, is named after Saint Sophia the Martyr, and so the city's holiday is on September 17. Sofia is in fact named after its ancient cathedral church of Saint Sophia, consecrated not to the early Christian martyr but to the Divine Wisdom of God (Aghia Sophia in Greek). There are several icons of St. Sophia the Martyr and her daughters in that church, though. ____________________________________________________  Feel free to e-mail me with any questions.

Further, Aquinas holds that "the habit of charity extends not only to the love of God, but also to the love of our neighbor".Some delineate charity to mean only benevolent giving, while others, such as Roman Catholics, have multiple interrelated meanings (i.e. charity is the theological virtue by which we love God above all things for his own sake, and our neighbor as ourselves for the love of God. ____________________________________________________  Feel free to e-mail me with any questions.
