There are over 500 species to choose from, most of whom are far more frightened of humans than vice versa. In this beautiful book, diving veteran John Bantin recounts many tales of his diving with several species of sharks and other marine animals over the last 4 decades. Accompanied by his own stunning photography, the captivating, spectacular and sometimes shocking encounters show the reader what it is like to get up close and personal to these bizarre and beautiful creatures. The sharks covered range from the great whale sharks to the small blacktip reef shark, in locations extending to all corners of the globe. 1932 VITALOGY: Homeopathic Medical Guide ANTIQUE Longevity Home Made Cures Book Vitalogy Homeopathic Medical Guide Antique Longevity Home Made Cures Book Encyclopedia of Health and Home- 1932 - Author E.H.Ruddock -MD This is a very large book "VITALOGY - AN ENCYCLOPEDIA OF HEALTH AND HOME", by E. H. Ruddock, M.D., copyright 1930 This wonderful old book contains 1010 pages and according to the facing page contains "Twenty Books Bound in One Large Volume". The book is illustrated with Manikins, (Natural Colors) and Colored and Half-Tone Plates. There are two Anatomy Foldouts - one is a Torso showing organ location and the other is Anatomy of the Head and includes brain division. There are lots and lots of black/white illustrations. I believe this book to be one of the first self-help Medical Guide books to be used at home in the US. There are lots and lots of home remedies; some are very amusing, but may have very well worked! believe the name of this book was later used by Pearl Jam in the 1990's for one of their album titles. Condition is GOOD ! There is slight rubbing of the covers at bottom and along one side of the spine. Inside pages are in great condition - no writing, dog-earing, etc. This is a wonderful book from long ago which is in reasonable condition; I don' think you will be disappointed! http://www.flickr.com/photos/48788707@N04/sets/72157623596383473/show/

It is ordered on demand from our supplier and is usually dispatched within 7 - 15 working days A wonderful story of what family means, of the flesh-level pain of sibling rivalry, and the discovery of love. It is a fantastic and beautiful tapestry of some of the most imaginative and precise prose writing going on in America today. Toby Olson stands tall among the handful of writers I most admire and respect.--Richard Wiley "Write A Letter to Billy" is a delectably complicated maze that kept me spellbound from start to finish. Only the most sophisticated of writers could manage to combine the seriousness of a quest for identity and meaning with the intensity of a thriller, not to mention an excursion into deep-sea diving and the resort life of southern California. Once again, Toby Olson has written a terrific novel full of peril and surprise, offering startling revelations and sudden expansions of the heart and mind."--Lynne Sharon Schwartz United with a long-lost teenage daughter, a retired Navy underwater repair specialist investigates a mysterious list his father had written just before his death. Some of the items are crossed off, but one of the unfinished tasks haunts him: "Write letter to Billy." What had his father planned to tell him? What he learns changes his life forever. Influenced by D.H. Lawrence, William Faulkner, and Charles Dickens, Toby Olson's pointed examination of memory and consciousness illustrates how the unraveling of external mystery leads to self discovery. Toby Olson, winner of the PEN/Faulkner Award for fiction, has published eight books of fiction and twenty-two books of poetry. His work has appeared in over two hundred newspapers, magazines, and anthologies. Olson's novels include "At Sea," "Dorit in Lesbos, Utah, " and "The Woman Who Escaped from Shame." He lives in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, and North Truro, Massachusetts. Features Summary In this literary adventure tale, Bill teaches deep sea diving to his daughter and discovers deep secrets about his own past. Sunday Times 'Tense, powerful and gripping... her writing style is often nothing short of beautiful - evocative and emotional.' Adam Kay, Observer At seven months pregnant, intensive care doctor Rana Awdish suffered a catastrophic medical event, haemorrhaging nearly all of her blood volume and losing her unborn first child. She spent months fighting for her life in her own hospital, enduring a series of organ failures and multiple major surgeries. Every step of the way, Awdish was faced with something even more unexpected and shocking than her battle to survive: her fellow doctors' inability to see and acknowledge the pain of loss and human suffering, the result of a self-protective barrier hard-wired in medical training. In Shock is Rana Awdish's searing account of her extraordinary journey from doctor to patient, during which she sees for the first time the dysfunction of her profession's disconnection from patients and the flaws in her own past practice as a doctor. Shatteringly personal yet wholly universal, it is both a brave roadmap for anyone navigating illness and a call to arms for doctors to see each patient not as a diagnosis but as a human being. (This title is available on demand: expected date of dispatch will be 7-10 working days once ordered) Although classical electromagnetic (EM) field theory is typically embedded in vector calculus and differential equations, many of the basic concepts and characteristics can be understood with precursory mathematical knowledge. Completely revised and updated, Basic Introduction to Bioelectromagnetics, Second Edition facilitates the process of interdisciplinary research by introducing life scientists to the basic concepts of EM fields. This new edition outlines elements of EM that are helpful to life scientists working with physicists and electrical engineers. Each concept is presented with an associated application and discussion. Example applications include hyperthermia, neural stimulation, MRI, NMR, ultrasound, and cardiac pacing/defibrillation. With the liberal use of diagrams and graphs, this qualitative and illustrative point of access: * Covers the entire frequency spectrum from direct current (DC) up through optical frequencies * Includes more than 200 illustrations with 40 medical applications * Incorporates examples from real applications to explain concepts * Concentrates on the qualitative explanation of the key concepts, fundamental principles, and characteristic behaviors of EM fields, without mathematical rigor * Offers practical rules of thumb to understand real situations * Requires only an algebra background, in contrast to typical EM books that require vector calculus and partial differential equations Offering a simplified view of a very complex subject, this second edition provides an accessible introduction for life scientists and medical technologists on how EM fields work, what controls them, and the factors important to experimental setups. Perry's poems turn this world's full ripeness and strangeness as a farmer turns soil--that out of disruption and loss, something new might take root, grow, and sustain."--Jane Hirshfield "Reading C. E. Perry you suddenly discover a deeply intelligent, sane, courageous, fresh voice. It surprises you as any such voice would. I am delighted with the breadth of interest and the wisdom."--Gerald Stern C. E. Perry graduated from the Iowa Writers' Workshop and from Dartmouth Medical School.
