The lowdown: Alongside Crash Bandicoot the original Spyro the Dragon games were the PSones best two exclusive platformers, but just like Crash theyve long lost their way. This might be called A New Beginning but its disarmingly similar to the last game and features precious little in the way of new ideas. Although he does sport a requisite pair of leathery wings, Spyro cant actually fly, just glide for short periods, which allows the game to include lots of platforming sections. The real emphasis is on combat though, which is a bit of a shame as it quickly gets repetitive with few moves and little variety in enemies. Its a competent enough game but its really got nothing new to add to either the Spyro series or action adventure games in general. Most exciting moment: The best part of the game is the way Spyros powers can slowly be upgraded, particularly his four flavoured dragons breath which switches between the elemental powers of fire, ice, wind and earth. Not only do many of the puzzles revolve around their use but some enemies are vulnerable to specific types. Since you ask: Oddly the game has quite the celebrity line-up in its voice cast, including Elijah Woods (The Lord of the Rings) and Gary Oldman (Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban), but their talents are largely wasted on a bland script and trite dialogue. The bottom line: Not the revamp the series needed to regain its previous glories.- HARRISON DENT

One of the biggest aspects of the game is that players have almost total freedom in regards to what actions to take. After the opening sequence, for example, players can choose to hide the body or to simply run. Every choice has a consequence, though, and players will quickly learn that taking the first presented option may not be the best bet. This freedom, however, means that players will rarely experience the same story twice and allows for great replayability. The storyline that players experience after the opening sequence is full of twists and turns, and it's not all from Lucas's point of view. Taking the essence of FIFA 2002 and modifying it for the world's greatest tournament, EA have restricted the scope of the game, offering only two modes of play (full tournament and friendly) and the 32 teams which are taking part in the tournament. That said, it still plays the same as its older brother and the look and feel given by the inclusion of the new stadia and enhanced sound effects really brings the game to life. Owners of the full-fat 2002 game will want to think very seriously before paying out for this "special" release, but for those who've not come across the franchise before, or those looking for a break from Pro Evolution Soccer, this game has entertainment by the sackload. Graphically it looks the business and the pre-match build-ups are eye candy to please any jaded palette. In-game, too, the player graphics are nicely detailed and there are some wonderful individual animations covering all manner of complex looking moves, swerves and dives. In fact, the only thing that really lets the side down is the speed of the game during more hectic midfield moments, when the framerate stutters appallingly--a little poor for a game that's been through so many development revisions. Control is nice and simple and it's a breeze to pick this title up and start booting the pigskin around the park within a couple of minutes, though mastering the finer points of ball control and the elusive "lob in" will take a good deal longer. 2002 FIFA World Cup really does have a lot going for it. It's not as technical as the ISS games, and it doesn't have the scope or gameplay modes of FIFA 2002, but it does have atmosphere by the bucketload. The "X" at the end of the game's name indicates that this is a special edition, but the new stuff is limited to a couple of extra camera angles and some new cut scenes with uber-baddy Wesker. In terms of extras the most interesting aspect of the package is actually a demo of the forthcoming Devil May Cry.
