CHINESE CRACKED ICE PRUNUS VASE - KANGXI DOUBLE RING MARKING IN SOUTH AFRICA
CHINESE BLUE AND WHITE PORCELAIN PRUNUS VASE 19th CENTURY A very attractive vase beautifully decorated in rich tones of underglaze cobalt blue with the use of a lighter blue (cracked ice) to give depth to the vase. An unusual feature is the mirror image of the blossoms, as opposed to an identical image. The base shows a double circle (under glaze) which is indicative of the Kangxi period. A rare shape and a superb vase is a very good example of Chinese porcelain and in very good condition for its age, has no chips, scratches or markings. The small black marks on the inside of the vase are consistent with iron residue from the clay moving slowly across the surface of the ceramic over a long period of time. Height: 30cms Circumference: 34cms Weight: 444 grams Displays beautifully and would make a nice addition to a blue and white collection.
