SINGER SEWING MACHINE TREADLE CONVERSION IN SOUTH AFRICA

I came across this vintage singer treadle sewing machine in an old junk shop. I removed the treadle and flywheel and only the cast iron side pieces were retained. The pieces were stripped back to bare metal and all the rust removed. It was sprayed with 2 coats of gloss black paint. The original wheels had been filed down to prevent the treadle from moving. These were removed and replaced with non-scratch nylon wheels. A center brace was created to extend the width of the table and stabilize the legs using square tubing and the two sides bolted together.   The table top was made from a 22mm thick slab of blackwood with one live edge. Two pieces were joined together to create a live edge on either side. The wood was sanded to a smooth finish and sealed with 3 coats of an ultra matt polyurethane varnish. The finish is hardwearing and stain and water resistant. The top varies from a soft creamy colour on the edges to a deep rich honey colour in the center. the live edge has been sanded smooth and retains patches of rust coloured bark that enhance the edge.   The desk is 100cm long, with an average width of 55cm. It stands 74 cm high. It will comfortable serve as a desk or sewing table or any other use your imagination can come up with.   R3500   (Accessories not included.
