The cottage is a typical Karoo-style building, but it has been renovated with modern flare without losing its authentic feel. Sutherland is situated in the Northern Cape, just a stone's throw from the Western Cape's border, and is known for its clear skies, stars and its cold temperatures in winters, which can drop to below zero and snows occasionally. The town is also steeped in South African history, endemic succulents and amazing architecture. Sutherland is home to SALT, the Southern African Large Telescope, which is the second largest optical telescope in the world. The town itself is quaint and quiet, but there is more to it than just visiting the observatory. The Artist's Cottage is ideal for that weekend away from the city, and spending some quality time with family.
