It is ordered on demand from our supplier and is usually dispatched within 6 - 13 working days Anton Heiller is one of the twentieth century's most renowned and influential organists. Born in , Heiller was trained in Vienna and rose to prominence quickly, giving his first solo recital at the age of twenty-two. Before concentrating on the organ exclusively, he was a successful conductor of the symphonic repertoire, and from until his untimely death in , he was professor for organ at the University of Music and Performing Arts in Vienna. His interpretations of Bach, which included registration and articulation, as well as a consideration of the theological underpinnings, would change the way Bach is played. Anton Heiller: Organist, Composer, Conductor provides an assessment of Heiller's works and teaching, while also examining his complex personality, one torn between strong religious devotion and the world of artistry. Underlying this story here is also the story of church music and organ playing in central Europe in the decades after World War II, and of the then unique crossroads of organ cultures in mid-twentieth-century Europe. Peter Planyavsky was Anton Heiller's successor as an organ professor in Vienna, and Organist of St. Stephan's Cathedral in Vienna from through . He is also a prolific composer, improviser, and conductor. The book is translated from the original German by Christa Rumsey, also a former student of Heiller. Sterling Silver Luckenbooth Brooch - Scottish Pin Product Description This charming sterling silver Luckenbooth brooch shows a historical symbol of Scotland. The name comes from the luckenbooths of Edinburgh where jewellery and trinkets used to be sold, including this type of brooch. Luckenbooth is a Scots word for a lockable stall or workshop. The Edinburgh booths were situated on the Royal Mile near St Giles Cathedral. They were the city's first permanent shops, going back to the 15th century, and initially housing mainly silversmiths and goldsmiths. The luckenbooth brooch is a traditional Scottish love token often given as a betrothal or wedding brooch. It might be worn by a nursing mother as a charm to help her milk flow, and/or be pinned to a baby's clothing to protect it from harm. It was known as a witch-brooch by people using it to save children from the evil eye.Solid 925 Sterling Silver Brooch - Dimensions - 34mm x 24mm (approx 1 1/4" x 1") Brooch weight: 4.8g This beautiful brooch is a Luckenbooth design associated with Scotland This item makes a great gift This brooch comes displayed in our dedicated jewellery box which will keep it safe and secure Our Guarantee to You We guarantee the utmost in Quality, Authenticity and Customer Satisfaction All our Items are Brand New and 100% Authentic with Original Box and Papers Price Beat or Match, if we can't (which is hardly ever), we will give you R150 off your next order with us. This item is sold brand new. It is ordered on demand from our supplier and is usually dispatched within 7 - 12 working days Herbert of Bosham (c.1120-c.1194) was one of the most brilliant, original and versatile thinkers of the twelfth century. Herbert was Thomas Becket's closest confidant, a theologian, biblical commentator, historian, letter-writer and Hebrew scholar; he wrote a Life of St Thomas unlike any other contemporary biography, produced one of the most visually-arresting illuminated Bible books of his age, and composed a commentary on the Psalms inspired by Jewish scholarship. His uncompromising character, and the originality and complexity of his thought, meant that Herbert's works were largely ignored during his lifetime and forgotten for centuries, but more recently they have begun to receive the attention and approval that their author insisted they deserved. The chapters in this book, the first to be devoted to Herbert's life and works, examine his eventful and troubled life, his remarkable corpus of works, and how they came to be neglected and rediscovered. They provide an introduction to his life, writings and legacy, direction to existing scholarship on the subject, and new insights on, interpretations of and discoveries about an idiosyncratic representative of the "twelfth-century renaissance". MICHAEL STAUNTON is Associate Professor of History at University College Dublin. Contributors: Julie Barrau, Laura Cleaver, Matthew Doyle, Anne J. Duggan, Christopher de Hamel, Sabina Flanagan, Michael Staunton, Nicholas Vincent. Features Summary In-depth study of an important writer and close associate of Becket.
