When the storms of life blow in unexpectedly, wreaking havoc and leaving a trail of destruction, why does one person fall apart while another perseveres and even finds a deeper sense of purpose afterward? In Beyond the Storm, Debra Morton reveals why, providing the techniques and strategies that helped her and many others not only survive but also thrive, even in the most painful of circumstances. While ministering to victims of Hurricane Katrina and grieving the death of her granddaughter, Morton realized that the key to pushing forward in the midst of setbacks was having a defined set of coping skills. So she created the "Storm Playbook," which teaches how to renew your hope, reclaim your passion, and experience fulfillment and joy again. That playbook is here for you to use immediately, along with interactive tools, journaling questions, and scripture studies that will guide you through pain and struggle and into strength and victory once again. Beyond the Storm is an essential help for flourishing after the devastating effects of life's blows so you can actively pursue the purpose you were designed to fulfill. It is a stillness that allows my lungs to expand like hot air balloons. It is an acceptance of the noise around me. It is a magic alchemy that might last a second or a whole day, where I feel relaxed yet aware; still yet dynamic; open yet protected... ' *** In today's always-on world, for many of us it seems impossible to relax, take time out or mute the encircling 'noise'. It is easy to feel trapped in this frenzied state of mind: we are surrounded by negative stories in the press, weighed down by pressures from work, family life or school and subject to constant scrutiny under the all-seeing eye of social media. As a result, mental health illnesses are on the rise in every age group, and more of us than ever before yearn for silence, peace and calm. CALM is Fearne's mission to find the simple things that can inch us away from stress and over to the good stuff. Including expert advice, conversations with wise friends from all walks of life, easy ideas to try, activities to complete - and the little things that have made a difference to her own, sometimes-bumpy life - this book is a friendly reminder that Calm is a place that exists in us all, we just have to find our way back to it. Features Summary A simple, gentle and visual guide to finding your inner calm, featuring Fearne's hand drawn illustrations throughout. Someone older, patient and wise, who understood you when you were young and searching, helped you see the world as a more profound place, gave you sound advice to help you make your way through it. For Mitch Albom, that person was Morrie Schwartz, his college professor from nearly twenty years ago. Maybe, like Mitch, you lost track of this mentor as you made your way, and the insights faded, and the world seemed colder. Wouldn't you like to see that person again, ask the bigger questions that still haunt you, receive wisdom for your busy life today the way you once did when you were younger? Mitch Albom had that second chance. He rediscovered Morrie in the last months of the older man's life. Knowing he was dying, Morrie visited with Mitch in his study every Tuesday, just as they used to back in college. Their rekindled relationship turned into one final " class" lessons in how to live. "Tuesdays with Morrie" is a magical chronicle of their time together, through which Mitch shares Morrie's lasting gift with the world. This item is sold brand new. It is ordered on demand from our supplier and is usually dispatched within 7 - 11 working days What's happening in the world lately? How can I be happy when so many are not? Is life about learning lessons or passing tests? Following your heart or taking what's served to you? What's real? What matters? Who says? Who cares? How do we know or find our purpose? Many of us ask ourselves these questions, and many more, as we go through our days and try to make sense of our lives. Mike Dooley asks them too, except...his questions get answered. Wisely. Compassionately. Fully. One such answer explained its source, stating that we all have a higher self within that predates this life and will live beyond it, and thus it knows a whole lot more than we do at "street level" about where we've been, why we're here, and what will likely happen next on planet Earth. Life on Earth takes the form of a journal in which Mike asks what's on his mind during pivotal times in his life. As one of today's most respected New Thought leaders and reality theorists, he offers a lofty platform for this wide-ranging dialogue that powerfully expands our perspectives on essential truths, taking on topics such as: - Why and how to see through the "illusions" of life on earth - How to make sense of natural disasters and manmade tragedies - Living deliberately, creating consciously, and finding your power - Wealth, relationships, "past lives," and the evolution of consciousness - The ultimate reason for life on earth, and elsewhere (it's shockingly simple) These are questions asked from the heart with a cautious, even suspicious, mind. Mike explores the subtleties of the replies in depth and detail using his trademark wit and realism, in this intrepid explorer's guide to the jungles of time and space. They very often contain important pieces of wisdom and insight that we are more willing to hear when they're delivered with a laugh. Life Is a Joke: 100 Life Lessons (with Punch Lines) includes 100 hilarious jokes along with the messages that you may or may not realize they carry. For instance, a joke about a tribal mystic and the weather service becomes a pointed parable about being very careful in choosing which experts to trust (or vote for). A joke about a therapist and his patient offers an invaluable insight about the vital importance of open communication. A salesman, a clerk, and a manager find a magic lamp--and learn that whoever speaks first doesn't necessarily win. Written by the brothers who created the phenomenally successful Uncle John's Bathroom Reader series, each entry in Life Is a Joke is contained in a two-page spread. There's an epigram previewing the theme of the joke and lesson, a brief precis of the lesson the joke teaches, and a few takeaway points with ideas for how readers can apply the lesson to their own lives. It is ordered on demand from our supplier and is usually dispatched within 7 - 15 working days The youngest of nine children, Michael Downing was three when his father died, suddenly and inexplicably. No autopsy was performed. The family diagnosis was God's will. As a boy, Downing rigorously trained as a spiritual athlete, preparing to vault into heaven. But eventually he escaped the religious dogma and the family arena--until one of his brothers died in 2003, suddenly and inexplicably. No autopsy was performed. Alarmed, Downing pursued a diagnosis. Drawn into a world of researchers, clinicians, and manufacturers with their own arcane ethics and faith, Downing discovered he had inherited a mutant protein from his father, and that the first symptom would be his sudden death. To save his life, a defibrillator was hardwired to his heart. Within weeks, he needed emergency surgery to remove the device and the life-threatening infection he got with it. Two months later, he was reimplanted--only to read in his morning newspaper that the new wires anchored to his heart were prone to failure. His device might be powerless, or it might deliver a series of unwarranted, possibly fatal, shocks. From a bedeviled boyhood in the Berkshires to a grim comedy of errors in one of Boston's best hospitals, Life with Sudden Death is a tale of medical misadventure.  SOS Men Against the Sea is a superbly dramatised chronicle of 29 ships the loss of which history, by and large, passed by.  Few have ever heard of the Cospatrick, a fully rigged ship destroyed by fire off the Cape of Good Hope in 1874 with the loss of 400 lives.  Or the steamer Utopia which skewered itself on the ram-bow of a warship in Gibraltar Bay and sank in five minutes, taking 500 souls with it.  A similar loss of life occurred when the Russian cruise liner Admiral Nakimov collided with a bulk carrier in the Black Sea in 1986.  There was no loss of life when the cruise liner Oceanis sank off the coast of the Transkei, thanks to the actions of a few non-seamen who displayed the true spirit of the Birkenhead. A total of 5683 lives were lost when these ships went down. This book is their epitaph.   Soft cover, fair condition.  The cover is creased in places.  The paper shows slight foxing but the spine is tight.  206 pages.
