CRAFT BEER GLASS TASTING KIT

Craft beer tasting has become somewhat of an art, and many a beer lover is keen to perfect this art. To become a pro, you need the right tools. This set of four tasting glasses gives you all you need to get started. Different styles of beer require different glasses to unfold their flavours effectively. Each of these glasses is especially thin blown, with a delicate rim that enhances the mouthfeel and taste. The beer-specific glass shapes also support the beer in releasing its full spectrum of aromas, delivering them to the nose. Each tasting kit includes the following glasses: Beer Tulip: Ideal for powerful stouts, Belgian style ales and pilsners, the beer tulip enhances the hop flavour in pilsner style beers while also supporting the malty character of bolder beers like strong stouts. The open mouth allows for an intense release of flavours. IPA: Ideal for IPAs, this glass is designed to showcase the complex and alluring aromatic profiles of American hop forward IPA beers, while preserving a frothy head, and enhancing taste and mouthfeel. Wheat Beer: Ideal for German wheat beer, Belgian white and wheat ale, the design of this tall glass accentuates the aromas and flavours naturally found in wheat beers. It is large in size, designed to hold volume and a fluffy head. Blonde Lager: Ideal for pale lagers, ales and English strong ale, the shape and volume of the lager glass resembles those of a traditional pint glass. Being slightly wider at the mouth than at the foot, this glass balances the hoppy nose.

Bright golden in colour Frothy white head Citrus and floral hops on the nose and palate, with a dry, sweet malt aftertaste Rob Heyns' Mixed Case Tasting Notes: June - Do It For Dad - This has to be the most interesting looking bottle in the June mixed case and it was also one of the most popular new beers at the Jozi Craft Beer Fest . It is your typical refreshing lager, although quite reminiscent of some pilsner specific styles with the sweet, floral effect.

FIERY GINGER

Dragon Brewing Co’s Fiery Ginger Beer stands out in an ocean of craft beer, because it’s not a craft beer in the sense of barley and hops. It is, however, a traditionally brewed, craft beverage and it packs a serious gingery punch. Sweetness is tempered by the tang of the ginger, creating a very moreish balance. In essence, it's an alcoholic ginger beer, and we like it. A lot. Hazy, pale yellow colour No noticeable head (this is not a traditional beer) Strong ginger on the nose and the palate, good carbonation; a thirst quenching drink Rob Heyns' Tasting Notes: This is technically not a beer in the sense of something that is brewed with barley, hops, malt and water, but it is a delicious brew either way. Ginger already has a bittering quality, which makes it perfect for brewing something that is sweeter yet more refreshing than your regular lager. We selected this brew as it gives you some real variety and, like the hard cider producers, also deserves its space in the craft beer movement. Guys, we are warning you though, the ladies tend to love this style, and this beer might be finished before you get a chance to taste it if you leave it in the fridge for too long.

IPA

This IPA from Vedett has a fairly medium body and medium carbonation, with soft flavours of malt, light hops and tropical fruit. To follow the floral and fruit notes on the nose and palate, the finish is somewhat dry and bitter. Clear golden in colour Medium white head Floral, fruity and malt notes on the nose and palate Rob Heyns' Tasting Notes: November - Vedett is an off-shoot of the large and successful Duvel Moordtgat but seem to have been given creative license to bring all kinds of cool and unusual concepts to beer. Their original Blonde Lager and Wit beers are more gateway style beers to bring trendy kids in Belgium to craft beer, but their latest addition is no entry beer. The beer style is similar to other Belgian IPAs in that there is some ester presence followed by blackcurrant and resiny hop characteristics.

Probably the Craft Brewer’s “Coup de Grace” when it comes to taking on the world of lager. These beers have a bigger malt character and need a little more bitterness to balance them… Growler’s Red Ale is more malty than the Bushveld Blonde, adding layers of specialty malts which give it it’s richer colour and flavour. Robust red ale The finest ingredients of malted barley, hops and an abundance of crystal-clear water are used Caramel and roast malt character A low hop flavour with slightly firm bitterness in the finish
