It is ordered on demand from our supplier and is usually dispatched within 15 - 20 working days Based on Irish writer Roddy Doyle's novel and lovingly directed with admirable restraint by the sometimes bombastic Alan Parker, this quirky 1991 tribute to the enduring and universal power of American R&B took some cynical criticism for its reliance on Baby Boomer-era classics such as "Mustang Sally," "Take Me to the River," and "In the Midnight Hour." But that sword cuts two ways: by casting a motley crew of real musicians, including the guts 'n' gravel-voiced young vocalist Andrew Strong, Parker didn't have to do much coaxing to reveal the obvious respect and affection his players have for this music. The material may not be fresh, but the love with which it's played is timeless. --Jerry McCulley Features Summary Based on Irish writer Roddy Doyle's novel and lovingly directed with admirable restraint by the sometimes bombastic Alan Parker, this quirky 1991 tribute to the enduring and universal power of American R&B took some cynical criticism for its reliance on Baby Boomer-era classics such as "Mustang Sally... Produced by The First Motion Picture Unit, American Air Force, during World War Two. Target For Today is the Very best Filmed record of an American 8th Air Force raid on Nazi Germany. Made with unprecedented access at every level, this unique film follows a complete days raids from start to finish. On this particular day, the targets were Anklam, Marienberg, Danzig and Gdynia and the raids were carried out by over 400 B-17 Flying Fortress and Liberators in the Face of Ferocious fighter attacks. Target For Today reveals how the targets were chosen, and how intelligence and mission briefings were passed to the individual airfields. It then focuses on the experiences of the typical aircrews. Awoken at 3am, breakfast at 4, briefing at 5 and into the air at 7am for the start of the long and dangerous mission to the heart of Nazi occupied Europe... Combat cameramen flew with the bomber crews to film the deadly duels with Luftwaffe fighters, and capture the intensity and the horror of areal combat, with both fighters and bomber suffering heavy losses. They recorded the moment as bombs rained down over the targets, and the obvious relief of the crew returning safe once again for England and a detailed debriefing on the experiences... Special Features The 8th Air Force At War Filming The Memphis Belle Colour and Black and White home movies of the 8th Air Force B-24 Liberators filmed by Wade Lemmons, USAAF
