NONSENSE BOOKS / A WONDER BOOK - COMPANION LIBRARY. IN ALBERTON
Nonsense Books / A Wonder Book - Companion Library. Nonsense Books: Edward Lear has been called " the father of English nonsense," and rightly so. But it all began when Lear, a young man then, was engaged to make drawings of birds for the Earl of Derby, at Knowsley, England. The Earl noticed that his grandchildren, as soon as dinner was finished, disappeared. He asked them why this was, and learned that "that young fellow downstairs is such good company!" Needless to say, the "young fellow" very shortly was invited upstairs to dine with the family. Years later, Edward Lear's poems and drawings were collected, and the several books of nonsense rhymes, limericks, and stories, all illustrated in his own inimitable way, have brought delight to thousands of readers. A Wonder book: In 1852, Nathaniel Hawthorn decided that the classic Greek myths, those glorious stories of darling and danger, would be rendered more satisfying to modern children if they were told in a more human way. That he succeeded in his task every reader will agree after reading them. • Secondhand book. • Hardcover. • Good Condition (A+). • 19 CM. • No writing or stamps in book. • English. • 725 - show phone -. • REF: 238.
