Frontier River Resort is under new ownership and is a luxury tented resort situated on the South African bank of the Orange River, just 5 km from the border on the N7. Built on a hill, the resort has spectacular views of the river and Namibia and is the ideal stop over location between South Africa and Namibia. We offer accommodation in six luxury free-standing permanent safari-style tents. Each tent contains an en-suite bathroom, air-conditioning and has only one entrance. The bathrooms were built using stones collected from the surrounding area and each tent is surrounded by grass and incorporated with local stones. A tented catering boma kitchen equipped with a built in braai, work surface, fitted stove and oven, double basin, a table and benches is available for use by guests. Wood, ice and water is sold on the premises. The Orange River, one of South Africa's major rivers, is truly one of the purest adventure trails in Southern Africa. The Gariep River, or Great River as it is called by the local Nama people, offers a unique outdoor experience to those who seek tranquility and adventure. The Orange River cuts through the Richtersveldt Desert Reserve and is now part of the Transfrontier transformation parks. Days are spent with early morning paddling, swimming, floating, bird watching and negotiating some rapids and fast-flowing water. Guides will take you through the steps of paddling through rapids, hiking and in general discover the eco system of the desert.
