CLOISONNE GINGER JAR RED MAGNIFICENT EXAMPLE TO ADD TO IN DE AAR
Magnificent Chinese red cloisonné ginger jar in perfect condition. No dings or dents to the body of the jar and no damage to the actual cloisonné design. The designs in Chinese cloisonné were items important in their culture. This design is a beautiful camellia flower on a red background, probably from late 19th / early 20th century. Size = cm. The triple semi-circle (looks like upside down clover leaf) in a continuous band at the top of the jar represents the Chinese imperial sceptre’s head. The blue enamel on the copper base is known as Counter-enamel. It is a strengthening measure needed during the high heat of the kiln firing. The Chinese used an enamel flux that allows a smooth surface after firing in various shades of medium blue or teal.
