CHINESE BLUE AND WHITE PORCELAIN PRUNUS AND HAWTHORN VASE IN SOUTH AFRICA

CHINESE BLUE AND WHITE PORCELAIN PRUNUS VASE 19th CENTURY A very attractive vase, with white Prunus and hawthorn on a vibrant cobalt blue, cracked ice background. An unusual feature is the mirror image of the blossoms, as opposed to an identical image. The base shows a double circle (under glaze) which is indicative of the Kangxi period.  However I believe this vase to be from the 19th century, when vases were copied to show appreciation for the Kangxi period.  The small black marks on the inside of the vase are consistent with iron residue from the clay moving slowly across the surface of the ceramic over a long period of time.
